The Organic Meals Production Act created the National Record of Allowed and Prohibited Substances (National Record) as a diagram for managing the substances outdated in natural manufacturing over time.

In frequent, natural substances are allowed in organics and synthetic substances are prohibited. The National Record identifies the restricted exceptions to those frequent rules. The National Record also identifies nonagricultural and nonorganic agricultural substances (substances) that can maybe be outdated in natural coping with.

Changes to the National Record require a National Organic Requirements Board (NOSB) advice and USDA rulemaking, a course of that supplies a pair of alternatives for public comment.

In June, the USDA  published a remaining rule in the Federal Register amending the National Record in accordance with public enter and the April 2019 NOSB suggestions. This remaining rule supplies further alternatives for natural farms and companies, by adding three substances to the list of substances allowed for natural manufacturing and coping with.

The remaining rule permits:

  • Oxalic acid as a pesticide for use in apiculture.

This remaining rule is effective July 26, 2021.
