The Favorite Provider Award became given to Frank Busta, Ph.D. this morning to kick off the 2021 Food Safety Summit.
Busta is the director emeritus of the National Heart for Food Protection and Defense (NCFPD; now Food Protection & Defense Institute) and Professor Emeritus of meals microbiology on the College of Minnesota.
He became named basically the most necessary director of NCFPD in 2004. Previously, he held school positions on the College of Minnesota, North Carolina Sigh College and the College of Florida. He served as chair of the Department of Food Science and Human Weight reduction program from 1984 to 1987 on the College of Florida and head of the Department of Food Science & Weight reduction program, College of Minnesota, from 1987 to 1997.
Busta’s research areas are in meals safety, whine and survival of microorganisms after environmental stress in meals, microbial ecology, and meals protection. He has printed bigger than 125 refereed research papers. He has served as Chief Skills adviser on a UNDP mission in China on agri-processing interior the WTO framework. He retired in 2002 from the Global Price on the Microbiological Specifications for Food after 15 years of provider.
Busta is a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), of the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM), of the American Association for the Vogue of Science, of the Institute of Food Science and Skills (IFST, within the UK), of the Global Association for Food Protection (IAFP) and of the Academy of the Global Union of Food Science and Skills.
He obtained the IAFP Honorary Life Membership Award in 2009 and gave the Silliker Lecture at IAFP in 2015. He obtained the IFT Calvert L. Willey Favorite Provider Award in 2003 and the Myron Solberg Award from IFT in 2017.
He chaired the Food Forum of the Institute of Treatment within the National Academies from 2011 to 2014. He became president of IFT in 1995–1996. Dr. Busta served as Senior Science adviser to NCFPD from 2007 to 2014. He’s a Certified Food Scientist (IFT), a Registered Scientist (IFST), and a Registered Specialist in Food, Dairy, and Sanitation Microbiology (National Registry of Microbiologists, AAM). He obtained his B.A. and M.Sc. from the College of Minnesota and his Ph.D. from the College of Illinois.
